Aircraft manufacturer Antonov has been known for its military transport aircraft for many decades. After the collapse of the Soviet Union almost 30 years ago, Ukraine became the company’s home country. However, Antonov had to wait half an eternity to be allowed to build aircraft for Ukraine itself. But now the time has finally come.

For the first time in the country’s 29-year history, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has ordered three aircraft from Antonov. These are three AN-178 transport aircraft. Antonov has been building this model for five years and was able to win Saudi Arabia as its first user. The three aircraft, each with a maximum payload of 18 tonnes, are to be delivered to Ukraine from 2023.

These new aircraft will be built by Ukrainian citizens, from Ukrainian components, for Ukrainian interests. In fact, this is how it should be. Let’s do everything possible for the aviation industry of Ukraine to overcome all zones of turbulence and reach new heights.

It’s really great news for Antonov at the end of this year. In such difficult times, finally getting encouragement in the form of orders from the home country boosts self-confidence for 2021. For all those who would now like to delve a little further into the military segment of aviation, we have a suitable article here.
