Most participants in international aviation associate 2020 with heavy losses. Many airlines were only able to survive 2020 in the face of the Corona pandemic because of government aid. But alongside all these sad stories, there is at least one positive example that we would like to highlight today in WingMag. The Luxembourg-based cargo airline Cargolux recently announced record figures for 2020.

For Cargolux, 2020 will go down in the company’s history as a year of double joy. As we reported at the time, the airline celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Then, its 50th year of business saw record profits for Cargolux. While the profit in 2019 was 20 million U.S. dollars, it reached a full 768.7 million U.S. dollars in profit in 2020 with an increase of more than 3,700 percent. Although the forecasts at the beginning of 2020 were more than uncertain. However, the loss of passenger air traffic and an increasing demand for goods created a gap that Cargolux was able to fill.

We at WingMag warmly congratulate on this record year and thank them for their part in fighting the pandemic. Now, with its fleet of 30 Boeing freighters, Cargolux ranks fourth in the IATA ranking of the world’s best cargo airlines.
