Last Sunday, Condor started a return operation from Perth to Frankfurt due to the corona crisis. A total of 800 passengers of the cruise ship “MS Artania” were flown back with four Boeing 767 aircraft. Originally, the cruise ship was planning a world tour. However, due to seven cases of corona on board, the tour had to be cancelled prematurely in Western Australia.
Due to this special flight it was the first time in a long time that Condor landed on Australian ground. During its return flight, the German holiday airline made a stopover in Phuket, Thailand, both on its outward and return flights. But other airlines are also experiencing extraordinary flight routes because of the Corona-related special flights. Last week, Wamos Air flew from Hawaii to Frankfurt with a Boeing 747 and Quantas flew from Darwin to London with an Airbus A380 – all without any stopovers.
From 16 to 22 March, Condor had already flown a total of 275 flights to Germany, bringing almost 53,000 tourists back to Germany. Some of the flights from the Caribbean, Egypt, the USA, Morocco, South Africa and Spain were regularly scheduled return flights. The other part were special return flights by tour operators and of the Federal Foreign Office.
