Flughafen Zürich AG has secured an extremely interesting project. It may sound a bit confusing at first, after all Zurich and Delhi are almost twelve hours apart, but nevertheless the AG has secured a special deal. It will build and operate the new Jewar International Airport, 80 kilometers south of Delhi.

This is a truly major project. The construction of Jewar International Airport is scheduled to begin as early as next year. For the first construction phase, Flughafen Zürich AG is planning a runway that will be used almost entirely for domestic flights. Costs of 708 million US dollars have been budgeted for this first construction phase alone. But this is only the beginning. In the long term, Jewar International Airport is to become India’s largest airport and will have a total of six runways. This would also make the airport one of the ten largest in the world.

All in all, an outstandingly promising project for Indian aviation, which is growing rapidly in importance. For Flughafen Zürich AG, this is a major long-term project; after all, the signed contracts are valid for 40 years.
