As early as last September, we asked ourselves in WingMag what the future task of the A380 plant in Toulouse will be. At that time, the last A380 left final assembly. As of today, there is finally certainty. The former A380 plant in Toulouse will become part of a modern final assembly line for the A320 family.

The modernized and digitally supported final assembly line at the old A380 Lagardère plant is scheduled to go into operation as early as the end of 2022. But it will not only replace an existing A320 final assembly line. In addition, it will also be available for A321 final assembly. This would make Toulouse the third Airbus site designed for A321 final assembly. Currently, these are only available in Mobile, USA, and Hamburg. Airbus is making the decision to convert the A380 plant in view of the end of the Corona crisis. The aircraft manufacturer expects the market to recover in the next few years and return to pre-Corona levels between 2023 and 2025.

Airbus aims to improve industrial flow, working conditions, quality and competitiveness with this expansion of the Airbus production system. At the same time, this breathes new life into the A380 plant.
