This summer, travel, especially air travel, is a sensitive issue. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is now mandatory in many countries to get tested when returning home. This is why many people are choosing to take a holiday at home this year. However, a holiday at home can now also include a flight, at least if you live in Taiwan. A flight of a very special kind was made yesterday by StarLux Airlines with 188 aviation enthusiasts.

The airline’s founder, Chang Kuo-Wei himself, flew the passengers in a new Airbus A321neo in a sightseeing flight over the country. A relatively low altitude was chosen for this special experience. So, that the passengers could enjoy a beautiful view of the country. The tour lasted three hours and twenty minutes and led over the metropolis of Taipei City to the atolls of the Pratas Islands. Already at the announcement of this special flight the tickets were sold out in 30 seconds. That is why StarLux Airlines is already planning another flight of this kind for mid-August, but with a new flight route.

What an exciting idea from StarLux Airlines. With its launch at the beginning of this year, the airline had probably imagined its first business year to be somewhat different. But after the grounding, the airline is trying to create new incentives for travellers in addition to regular flights. For many, this flight of a special kind may sound like a marketing gag. But for the 188 passengers it was certainly an exciting change from their everyday lives.
