Holidays in Turkey are particularly popular with German tourists. SunExpress, the joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, has specialised in precisely these travel routes. The company has come up with something to offer passengers a little more security during the Corona Pandemic. A Covid-19 travel insurance, which can be added to all flights from Germany to Turkey.
“Tourist Protection and Support Insurance” is the name of this voluntarily bookable option, which SunExpress offers in cooperation with Güneş Sigorta, a renowned Turkish insurer. For a fee of 15 euros per week, air travelers can insure themselves in the event of a Covid-19 infection in Turkey. This travel protection insurance then covers all treatment and hospital costs. Not a bad offer for those who do not have international health insurance.
Due to the current situation all travellers from Turkey back to Germany are obliged to have a negative Covid-19 test. This PCR test must be done 48 hours before arrival in Germany. Therefore, the Covid-19 travel insurance from SunExpress seems to be a welcome additional security. The traveller can be sure that he or she is safe if the return journey to Germany cannot take place due to a positive test result.
