SWISS and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) entered into a new strategic partnership last October. The move was prompted by customers’ growing need for uncomplicated ways of combining train and air travel. Thus, the train connections that were created by this partnership were called Airtrains. Since yesterday there is a new Airtrain connection in Switzerland. Geneva’s main station is now seamlessly and regularly connected to Zurich airport.
Due to the cancellation of many domestic flights due to the corona crisis, there are currently only four flights a day from Geneva to Zurich. Nevertheless, Zurich International Airport remains a very important hub for Switzerland. For this reason, the Geneva – Zurich Airport route has now been upgraded by ten Airtrain connections a day. What is special is that these train connections, operated by SBB, are given a SWISS flight number. Use of this service is included for passengers with flight tickets. All in all, the additional trains will provide SWISS customers with greater flexibility and choice. But also passengers who have booked a flight with Edelweiss can use the train free of charge. This is because there is a codeshare agreement between the airline and SWISS.
The connection by Airtrain between Geneva and Zurich Airport is now the third joint offer by SWISS and SBB. Basel and Lugano are already connected to the hub with this special feeder service.
