It is now more than three months since we had to report the cancellation of the AIX 2020 in Hamburg. This also applied to the Crystal Cabin Awards, which have been presented annually since 2007 to honour innovations for the aircraft cabin. Lastly, we were able to report in WingMag that the awards will nevertheless be presented at a later date in 2020. But now it has been officially announced: there will be no Crystal Cabin Awards ceremony in 2020.

The date to remember for all those interested is April 13, 2021, which is the first evening of Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2021. For this evening, the Crystal Cabin Award ceremony is planned. But what will happen to the 24 finalists who were hoping to receive an award this year? It remains exciting for them, because their nomination this year is still valid for next year’s award. A summary of all finalists can be found here in WingMag

To ensure that the innovation industry in aviation still has the opportunity to receive a Crystal Cabin Award for new developments next year, there is a new, additional category. In 2021, a special award is presented for concepts relating to hygiene in aircraft cabins. This innovation has its origins in the current global situation and encourages the development of innovative concepts despite the crisis. Furthermore, new innovations that are created this year will also find their place in the existing categories. Unfortunately, they can not hope for a nomination for a Crystal Cabin Award, but they will at least be presented. Further details are still being planned.
