Back in March we reported in WingMag on the hybrid aircraft manufacturer VoltAero. A young French company with experienced minds in the background. Their goal: to build hybrid-electric aircraft, especially for regional, air taxi and private flights. Already back then we were enthusiastic about the start-up. The latest supporter of the project is now the European Innovation Council.

In a first grant, VoltAero will receive 2.1 million euros from the Innovation Council to further advance the development and construction of its Cassio aircraft. There is also the possibility of additional blended financing. However, this can only take place at a later date and requires up to €11 million in equity. The European Innovation Council selected the company from a field of 2077 candidates. It is convinced that VoltAero can contribute significantly to the European Green Deal strategy. Although the Cassio aircraft can carry a maximum of ten passengers, the research findings may be transferred to larger aircraft in the future. After all, environmentally friendly flying is an issue that is gaining in importance year by year.

We congratulate VoltAero on receiving this generous funding. According to Jean Botti, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, it can make a significant contribution to ensuring that Cassio aircraft can begin series production as early as 2023.
