Wizz Air receives cargo aircraft – new territory for the airline

The Hungarian airline Wizz Air is normally known as a passenger airline. WingMag has already reported several times in the last few months about the airline’s major expansion plans. However, these were exclusively about new routes for its Airbus A320 and A321 passenger flights. Now the surprise: a cargo aircraft for Wizz Air.

It is an Airbus A330-200F, which until recently took off for Qatar Airways. However, Wizz Air is not the new owner of the full-freighter, but the Hungarian Foreign Ministry. In view of the Corona crisis and the resulting difficult supply situation in some cases, it is hoped that having its own freighter will improve the situation. Nevertheless, the freighter with the identification HA-LHU will fly in the colours of the airline. In addition, the aircraft may be used by the operating airline itself in the absence of a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is an interesting agreement between both parties, after all it is a classic win-win situation. The Hungarian government no longer needs to rely on third parties in case of crisis and the Hungarian airline has a cargo aircraft at its disposal
