WOW Air just before a comeback?

At the beginning of 2019 the Icelandic airline WOW Air had to file for bankruptcy. A takeover by competitor Icelandair had failed and the cooperation with Indigo Partners as an investor did not lead to a rescue of the purple airline. However, the start into a new decade could also stand for a new start at WOW Air. After a cryptic post on Facebook, the company itself took a stand.

The rumors about a possible return of WOW Air to the air increased already last year. With Michele Roosevelt Edwards, the company got a new owner, who soon announced at a press conference in October that WOW Air would resume flight operations. At that time, the first take-offs of two aircraft were planned for October 2019, but for the time being the planning remained unchanged and things became quieter again. A few days ago, WOW Air published a message on Facebook that made people sit up and take notice again. Even though there is no concrete information about the comeback, there are sources on other websites that indicate that WOW Air will be relaunched in March 2020. For now, only two freight-only flights between Keflavik and Washington D.C. are planned, but the company also announced that it will soon start selling tickets.

Will it stay with a plan or will it be put into action in 2020? We at WingMag are curious and will report accordingly. Will WOW Air manage to gain ground again or will they fail again? We keep our fingers crossed for the Icelandic company that the new start will go well.
